What is an impact effort matrix template?

An impact effort matrix template visually represents the relationship between impact and effort, allowing teams to prioritize tasks more effectively. It consists of a grid divided into four quadrants:

  • High impact, low effort: Tasks in this quadrant have a high potential impact but require relatively low effort to implement. These tasks are considered quick wins and can be prioritized for immediate action.
  • High impact, high effort: These are tasks with high potential impact but also require a significant amount of effort. These tasks are important but may require careful planning.
  • Low impact, low effort: Tasks here will have a low potential impact but require minimal effort to implement. These tasks can be addressed if resources are available, but cannot be prioritized over higher-impact tasks.
  • Low impact, high effort: These are tasks with low potential impact that also require a significant amount of effort to implement. These tasks are often deprioritized.
